May is Mental Health Month

There are many simple, safe, inexpensive, or free things you can do to help yourself or your loved ones feel better.  Check out the ideas listed below!

Steps to Feel Better

Tell a good friend or loved one how you feel.

Ask for advice and support from your mental health provider.

Surround yourself with people who make you feel good about yourself.

Ask for help from your family members with those every day chores so you can take care of yourself.

Learn about what you are experiencing by reading articles, attending support groups or talking to your clinician.

Get a good night’s sleep by avoiding heavy meals 2 hours before bed, read a calming book, take a warm bath, and dim the lights.

Get some exercise.

Spend at least one-half hour outdoors every day and bring light inside by opening up your shades.

Eat healthy foods. Limit sugar, caffeine, alcohol, and heavily salted foods in your diet.

Every day, do an activity that brings you joy, like a craft, playing with your kids, or walking your dog.

Change negative thoughts to positives ones and repeat positive responses over and over.

Relax, from your toes to your head, and visualize your happy place.
